Locating a Pipeline

Entire pipeline is buried below ground with a minimum soil cover of 1.0 m. To identify the pipeline, line markers are used to indicate the approximate location of pipeline along the route. The markers can be found where a pipeline intersects a highway or railway and every one kilometre distance along the pipeline route. The markers display the material transported in the pipeline, the name of the pipeline operator, and a toll free telephone number where RGPL can be reached in the event of an emergency.

Line markers provide information on the approximate depth and position of the pipeline. Pipelines may not follow a straight path between markers. Look for these signs:

  • Line markers near roads crossings, railroads and along pipeline RoU and on the pipeline itself.
  • Aerial markers
  • RoU boundary markers

Familiarize yourself with pipeline markers on or near your property. If you knock over a marker, please call us for replacing it. If you would like to install more pipeline markers on your property, give us a call.

In case of an emergency, call on below mentioned numbers. Even minor dents, gouges or scrapes to the pipeline are serious and may cause future leaks if not repaired on time.
